As the First
World War wound down and the defeated Germans were forced to the
table to accept the terms imposed upon them by the victorious
allies, some were already planning for a resumption of
hostilities which would see the Reich regain it's proper place
in European and World affairs. The First World War did not
really end the tensions that had ignited it but due to absolute
exhaustion by most waring nations a break in what was really a
European Civil War was desired. This break was initally viewed
as an opportunity to work for lasting peace and migh have
succeeded if not for allied insistance that Germany be forced to
pay for WWI and German sentiment that it would get even for the
humuliations it had suffered. These Were not feelings and
ambition shared by all but narrow bitter objectives of that
select few who managed to re-direct affairs, with the assistance
of economic depression, back to war as a solution to settling
international affairs. |
