With the arrival of the 20th
century came the first signs of the stresses and cracks in the
Empire. The First World War saw the fall of most other European
monarchies /Empires and the slaughter of a generation of
manhood from England's people. As World War II approached, the
process of retreat from empire had begun and the war brought
Britain to the edge of collapse. Through leadership and vision
the war was won and the dismantling of the system accelerated.
Still a world power, England's PM's continue to play a major
role in world affairs. |
