The Germans Arrive

With the collapse of the Roman Empire and the departure of the last legions from Britain, the Germanic tribes from the continent began to arrive. The first groups were hired as mercenaries to protect the Island but soon decided to stay and settle in this rich land. Soon afterwards the Anglos, the Saxons and the Jutes began to arrive and as they did they pushed the native Celts and Roman Brits further westward.
