The Normans arrived under the
leadership of their claimant to the English throne William the
Conqueror. Although he defeated King Harold at Hastings in 1066
and was crowned King of England shortly thereafter, it several
decades for the Normans to overcome resistance to their rule
throughout the land. These two maps display the progress the
Normans made in establishing their rule. |
