Beckham at 2002 World Cup

David Beckham - The sports superstar of our age in England. Beckham made his mark as a soccer player quickly and by age 8 had scored more then 100 goals over 3 seasons. Beckham was brought up by his father as a Manchester United fan and at age 11 he entered a Bobby Charlton Soccer Skill Tournament at Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, and won with the highest score ever recorded.

2002 World Cup

The trademark kick that Beckham seems to be able top drop in front of or into the goal, from anywhere on the field,  bends onto target as it soars through the air. At the young age of 14 he was signed by Manchester United as a trainee. In 1992 he was on the United team which won the FA Youth title.  In 1993 he signed as a player with Manchester United but would not play for them until 1995. He played 5 games on loan before this debut for Preston North End.

His soccer debut in 1996 began with a spectacular gold on Wimbledon's Neil Sullivan. The Manchester United team of that year went on to win the FA Premiership and the FA Cup. Beckham also played his first international game that year for England against Moldova. A goal from the halfway line in the first game of the 1996/97 season at Wimbledon brought him to star status, which has grown inexorably since. His marriage to Victoria Adams have helped his every movement make the tabloid press.

2002 World Cup Team

Manchester United have won several other FA titles over the years and played and won a European Champions title in 1999. His presence and play have thrilled and excited fans all over the world and his signature style has make soccer a popular sport in many countries where it was previously unnoticed.

Beckham joined the 2002 English team in it's attempt to win the World Cup. He supplied moral and playing leadership during the tournament and England's overtime loss to the eventually winner Brazil was a heartbreaking experience for all fans of English Soccer. A growing rift with the Manchester United management in 2003 threatened to disrupted Beckham's career and public statements by Real Madrid that they wanted him opened up the possibility that Beckham might leave England.

Just Watch me

In 2003 Beckham signed with Real Madrid for £25m and rather then diminish his reputation in the minds of English fans, this seems to have elevated him to an need international level and made him and his wife Victoria into cultural icons.
